Ferrari shuts gas-fueled plant early to boost solar energy production

Ferrari is shutting down its gas-fueled trigeneration plant at Maranello three months ahead of schedule, with its 2030 carbon neutrality goal in mind.

This move marks a significant milestone, reducing the company’s Scope 1 and 2 CO₂ emissions by 60% annually. Ferrari is also cutting methane gas consumption by 70%, furthering its commitment to sustainable energy.

"30 September is a historic date on Ferrari’s journey towards carbon neutrality by 2030." - Benedetto Vigna, Ferrari CEO.

The early deactivation of the trigeneration plant, operational since 2009, accelerates the automaker’s transition to renewable energy sources. In line with this, Ferrari is doubling its solar energy capacity from 5 MWp to 10 MWp by 2030.

Expanding its photovoltaic systems will boost the share of self-produced renewable energy at the Maranello site, which currently meets 40% of the factory’s energy demands. This increase will work alongside existing renewable Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs) to strengthen Ferrari’s renewable energy supply, supporting the brand's sustainability ambitions. Ferrari’s proactive approach to reducing emissions sets a powerful example in the automotive industry’s journey toward greener operations.
